Between 12 and 15 million people, including close to five million children, in the United States have asthma. Asthma is a chronic disease in which airflow in and out of the lungs may be blocked by muscle squeezing, swelling and excess mucus. Patients with asthma may respond to factors in the environment, called triggers, which do not affect non-asthmatics. In response to a trigger, an asthmatic's airways become narrowed and inflamed, resulting in wheezing and/or coughing symptoms.

Triggers of Children Asthma: Colds & Infections, Tobacco Smoke, Strong Odors & Spray, Animal Dander, House Dust Mites, Feathers & Kapok, Indoor Molds, Pollens & Molds(Outdoor).

Other Triggers of Adult Asthma: Medicine-induced asthma, and exercise-induced asthma.

Physicians who are not specialists may treat these symptoms as an infection, not realizing that the underlying cause is asthma. Asthma is a lung disease that is characterized by three airway problems: obstruction, inflammation and hyper responsiveness. Asthma requires continuous medical care.

Horehound-botanical Extract:Horehound's botanical genus, marrubium, is said to be derived from the Hebrew, marrob, which translates as "bitter juice,"and it is thought that Horehound was one of the original bitter herbs of the Jewish Passover meal. The esteemed seventeenth-century botanist. herbalist and physician, Nicholas Culpeper, wrote in the English Physitian that Horehound"helpth to expectorate tough phlegm from the chest....There is a syrup made of this plant which I would recommend as an excellent help to evacuate tough phlegmand cold rheum from the lungs of aged persons, especially those who are asthmatic and short winded." Among its constituents are marrubium (a "bitter" that is sometimes called maribun or marrubiin), essential oils, tannins, minerals, wax, saponins, B-complex vitamins and vitamin C.

Horehound is a powerful expectorant and relieves lung congestion. In treating painful, chesty, nonproductive coughs, colds, bronchitis and sinusitis, Horehound's compound, marrubium, decreases the thickness of phlegm and promotes the secretion of fluids into bronchial passageways, producing mucus. It also combines the action of relaxing the smooth muscle of the bronchi while promoting mucus production and expectoration, thereby also easing the pain of the cough.

As a pain reliever, the marrubium compound in Horehound stimulates the central nervous system and was found in laboratory tests to be more potent than some well-known pain relief medications.

Horehound is considered a mild laxative and is also said to expel worms. Some studies claim that horehound helps to stop the high and low blood-sugar reactions after eating high-carbohydrate meals and snacks.

Citrus Bioflavonoids are used extensively in the treatment of athletic injuries, because they are thought to the relieve pain of bumps and bruises. They are also reported to reduce pain located in the legs or across the back and ease the pain of carpal tunnel syndrome.

Citrus Bioflavonoids are essential support molecles for vitamin C absorption(and should be taken at the same time to gain maximum benefit) and are also believed to protect and preserve the structure (permeability) and strength of capillaries (blood vessels), which is a great help for capillary fragility (easy bruising) and venous insufficiency (varicose veins and spider veins). Use of Citrus Bioflavonoids and vitamin C also helps in cases of vitamin C deficiency and scurvy,as well as maintaining the health of the body's collagen(the intercellular cement).

Citrus Bioflavonoids are also thought to be a good source of antioxidants that act as free radical scavengers searching for and engulfing the unstable molecules that are produced during the body's use of oxygen that may cause damage to tissues and cells.

Daily use of Citrus Bioflavonoids may be helpful in treating and preventing cataracts and help in cases of diabetic retinopathy.

Citrus Bioflavonoids are said to have antibacterial and antiviral properties and may reduce the symptoms or oral herpes.
